Artist Statement

I choreograph like I cook.
The ingredients are the inspiration.
I choreograph without a recipe in mind, allowing the work to reveal itself like it’s been there the whole time, or form itself as its demands and desires make themselves apparent.
I enter into a conversation with my collaborators and the work itself, sharing needs and desires, observations and objections, together modifying the work to taste.
My work enjoys a complex flavor profile, layering bitter with sweet, all the better to connect with and emphasize conditions of our humanity.
Resourceful and sustainable, I look for ways to see and utilize the abundance that surrounds me.
Through this process I continually strive to engage in and enhance the world I live in, a world that needs and thrives on the creative abundance that dance can provide.
